As a garage winery, we work our 8 hectares around the Kleine Kalmit by hand — with little machinery. Every grape is selectively hand-picked, every wine fermented spontaneously with wild yeasts.
Low-intervention means: ecologically uncompromising in the vineyard, as little as possible and as much as necessary in the cellar.
After studying oenology in Geisenheim and five years at a large winery, Katrin Wind founded her own estate in 2013 on a small family vineyard in Arzheim.

Our Vineyards
The Southern Palatinate is one of Germany's oldest and most diverse wine regions — shaped by a mild, almost Mediterranean climate, lime-rich soils and a winemaking tradition that reaches back to Roman times. On the edge of the Palatinate Forest, between Landau and the Kleine Kalmit, we cultivate 8 hectares on soils found nowhere else.
Garage Wine from the Southern Palatinate
The term garage wine originates from 1990s Bordeaux: small producers crafting wines of uncompromising quality in their garages. Katrin Wind brought this principle to Arzheim in 2013 — with 2.5 hectares, a 42-square-metre garage and the conviction that size says nothing about quality.
What emerges from Arzheim is radically artisanal: selective hand-harvesting, spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, no fining, no filtration. The result: wines of a clarity and expressiveness that attract attention far beyond the region.
Arzheim and the Kleine Kalmit
Arzheim lies in the heart of the Southern Palatinate, a few kilometres south of Landau, where the Rhine Graben meets the Palatinate Forest. The village is surrounded by vineyards, orchards and the wooded slopes of the nature park — a place where viticulture has been rooted since Roman times.
The Kleine Kalmit, the distinctive hill above the village, is geologically a window into Earth's history: 30-million-year-old limestone formations, interspersed with fossils, create a terroir that exists nowhere else in the Palatinate. Winemakers in the region speak of Kalmit wines as a distinct origin — not a marketing term, but geological reality.
